Cardinal Capital Management today announced that it has been recognized with Top Guns status by Informa Investment Solutions’ PSN manager database in five separate categories. This means that Cardinal Capital Management’s strategies were among the top 10 performers within one or more peer groups reporting to PSN, the longest-running investment manager database in North America.
Cardinal Capital Management was recognized in the following five categories:
1.) Small Cap Equity 5 Stars Small Cap Core Equity Universe
2.) Small Cap Equity Bull/Bear Small Cap Core Equity Universe
3.) Small Cap Equity 2 Stars Small Cap Core Equity Universe
4.) Small Cap Equity Bull/Bear Small Cap Universe; and
5.) Balanced 2 Stars US Balanced Universe. Cardinal’s US Balanced composite includes approximately 70% large cap U.S. equities, 25% high-quality bonds of laddered maturities and 5% cash.
“We are pleased to be recognized with an additional five Top Gun awards for our performance in both equities and fixed income during the first quarter of 2016. Our value-oriented methodology results in lower-volatility portfolios that aim to outperform the relevant benchmark over time. We think these awards continue to validate our methodology and objective to deliver superior risk-adjusted returns for our clients,” said Glenn Andrews, CFA, President and CIO.
Utilizing a proprietary blend of Informa Investment Solutions’ top priority performance screens, PSN Top Guns ranks products in six proprietary star categories in over 50 universes. This is a highly anticipated quarterly ranking and is widely used by institutional asset managers and investors.
Top Guns receive a star rating in the range from one to six. The stars indicate the continued performance over length of time. Cardinal Capital Management was named a Top Gun with star ratings of 5 and 2 as well as the Bull & Bear Masters designation which are defined as follows:
5-Star Category: Products must have an R-Squared of 0.80 or greater relative to the style benchmark for the recent five-year period. Moreover, products must have returns greater than the style benchmark for the three latest three-year rolling periods. After that they select only the products which standard deviation for the five-year period is equal or less than the median standard deviation for the peer group. The top ten returns for the latest three-year period then become the TOP GUNS.
2-Star Category: These products were top ten performers within their respective universes, based on returns for the one-year period.
Bull & Bear Masters: Products must have an R-Squared of 0.80 or greater relative to the style benchmark for a three year period. Moreover, products must have an upside market capture over 100 and a downside market capture less than 100 relative to the style benchmark. The top ten ratios of Upside Capture Ratio over Downside Capture Ratio become the PSN Bull & Bear Masters.
“The PSN Top Guns ranks products in six proprietary star categories in over 50 universes,” said Leno Toich, Managing Director of Informa Investment Solutions. “This data-driven award recognizes elite performers in the leading investment manager database in North America and provides high-level exposure to hundreds of institutional clients and investors across our platform.”
