Cardinal Capital Management, Inc. today announced that it has been awarded with Top Guns status by Informa Investment Solutions’ PSN manager database in seven separate categories. PSN Top Guns performance rankings are tabulated for thousands of products across 58 peer groups subdivided by increasingly rigorous screens and reported in ascending classes from 1 to 6 stars.
As of June 30, 2016, Cardinal Capital’s U.S. Large Cap Core Equity, Small Cap Equity, and Balanced composites were among the top 10 performers within their respective peer groups reporting to PSN, the longest-running investment manager database in North America.
Cardinal Capital’s Balanced composite, a combination of 70% large cap US equities 25% high-quality bonds of laddered maturities and 5% cash, was recognized with 4, 3 and 2 Star designations, which represent top ten returns for the 5-year, 3-year, and 1- year periods ending June 30, 2016, respectively. To put the top ten results in perspective, PSN’s Balanced Universe is made up of more than 173 firms and 311 products.
PSN awarded Cardinal Capital’s Small Cap Equity composite 2 Stars for its top one percentile performance results for the 1-year period ending June 30, 2016. The PSN Universe consisted of 143 firms and 173 products. Cardinal’s Small Cap Equity composite was also recognized with PSN’s Bull & Bear Master designation for its performance in up and down markets relative to the performance of the broader market; specifically with a 100.26% Up Market Capture Ratio and only 39.30% Down Market Capture Ratio. “We are pleased with the recognition of our performance results. Utilizing a proprietary blend of Informa Investment Solutions’ top priority performance screens, PSN Top Guns ranks products in six proprietary star categories in over 50 universes. This is a highly anticipated quarterly ranking and is widely used by institutional asset managers and investors.
Top Guns receive a star rating in the range from one to six. The stars indicate the continued performance over a length of time. Cardinal Capital Management, Inc. was named a Top Gun with star ratings of 4, 3, 2 and 1 as well as the Bull & Bear Masters designations which are defined as follows: 4-Star Category: Products with this rating must have an R-Squared of 0.80 or greater relative to the style benchmark for the recent five-year period. Moreover, products must have returns greater than the style benchmark for the three latest three-year rolling periods. The top ten returns for the latest three-year period then become the TOP GUNS.
3-Star Category: These products were top ten performers within their respective universes, based on returns for the three-year period.
2-Star Category: These products were top ten performers within their respective universes, based on returns for the one-year period.
1-Star Category: Products with this rating were top ten performers within their respective universes, based on quarterly returns.
Bull & Bear Masters: Products must have an R-Squared of 0.80 or greater relative to the style benchmark for a three year period. Moreover, products must have an upside market capture over 100 and a downside market capture less than 100 relative to the style benchmark. The top ten ratios of Upside Capture Ratio over Downside Capture Ratio become the PSN Bull & Bear Masters.
